Responsibilities The Buyer/Planner III has responsibility for coordinating monthly demand planning activities and distributing supply feedback to Operations. They work with cross-functional task teams for new product roll-outs and prepare and distribute monthly and quarterly reports on asset status, requirements, and delivery. Responsible for timely and cost-effectively ordering supplies, receipt and stocking of inventory, and shipping. Ensures the security and accountability of inventory by documenting transactions and processing transactions in accordance with Sarbanes-Oxley, and periodically conducting physical inventories and system reviews. Responsibilities & Duties: Use MRP reports to place purchase/manufacture & assembly work orders, including outside processes where needed. Follow price lists/contracts where applicable and on new items ensure that we obtain best possible price, delivery and quality. Price should be monitored & at least equal to, or less than, standard cost. Work with QA to identify and develop new sources of supply. Use daily MRP reports to combine future requirements, re-schedule or cancel purchase/manufacture orders, or to subcontract items. Constantly review planning parameters (minimum order quantities, lead times etc) for items under your control. Follow up with vendors and workshop as required to ensure parts ordered arrive/are made on time and are available to assembly and/or shipment. Provide production/logistics support. Manage the inventory planning parameter/levels for items under your control and maximize the inventory turns. Assist engineering to develop project plans for customer orders and to provide regular status reports to team. Identify opportunities to reduce cost and work with the Supply Chain Manager to develop cost comparisons and to negotiate contracts. Use up excess inventory through material substitution when possible in agreement with technical support. Assess & provide business analysis and management reports. Maintain the business KPI(s) for respective product lines. Qualifications 3+ years experience in purchasing in a manufacturing/operations environment. Ability to negotiate, motivate and communicate at all levels. Conversant with manufacturing systems, practices and processes. Understanding of computerized ERP systems. Basic understanding of engineering principles and manufacturing operations. Excellent communication skills and be able to establish good working relationships with fellow colleagues. Must be pro-active and be able to work on own initiative. Preferred: Knowledge of Budget Control Must have a good commercial awareness when dealing with vendors.
