Company Profile

Marine Engineer

Job title:
Marine Engineer

Summary:
Are you the new Manager, Maritime Technology and Regulations at BIMCO?

Full description:

Join the BIMCO team

Are you the new Manager, Maritime Technology and Regulations at BIMCO?

Maritime regulations, and especially in the area of environmental protection, calls for far reaching measures that will impact construction, operation and dismantling of ships in future decades. BIMCO is looking for a new employee who has a deep understanding of ships’ technical operations and at the same time, is interested in the regulatory side of shipping.

Greenhouse gas emissions top the regulatory agenda and BIMCO plays an important role in shaping realistic global solutions that can work for the industry and at the same time be acceptable to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) member states.

Air emissions are being heavily regulated across the spectrum including SOx, NOx and particulate matter. These regulations have a huge impact on the future of shipping; not only on the fuels used, but also the engines burning these fuels and systems managing the fuels on board. Knowing how it really works on board modern ships is critically important for BIMCO. Using expert knowledge to ensure harmonisation and standardisation of international shipping activities through dialogue with both shipowner members and IMO member states, is a key part of BIMCO’s day to day role.

The current role of Manager, Maritime Technology and Regulations, is vacant.

In this role you will:

  • work on technical maritime issues and participate in meetings, committees, working groups and correspondence groups in the IMO

  • advise and guide members on marine technical issues and regulatory developments within the maritime sector, with particular focus on safety and environmental protection

  • participate in internal projects to develop new products for BIMCO members

  • attend meetings with various marine technical bodies such as classification societies, international standards organisations and other shipping industry associations

  • represent BIMCO at courses and conferences and

  • provide input to BIMCO’s Marine Committee.

The successful candidate is ambitious and has:

  • sea-going experience as an engineering officer combined with experience as a superintendent at a company responsible for technical management of ships

  • excellent written and spoken English at professional business level as English is the working language at BIMCO

  • an outgoing personality with excellent diplomatic skills

  • the ability to work independently and systematically, as well as in project teams and

  • a systematic understanding of the regulatory framework for ships in international trade.

BIMCO is the world’s largest international shipping association, with 2,200 members in around 130 countries. We provide a wide range of services to our global membership – which includes shipowners, operators, managers, brokers and agents.

We are accredited as a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) and have observer status with a number of United Nations organisations and are in close dialogue with maritime administrations, regulatory institutions and other stakeholders within the European Union, United States and Asia.

BIMCO offers professional opportunities in a dynamic and attractive international environment with a competitive salary, plus pension scheme. Your daily workplace is based in the BIMCO office, located in Bagsvaerd, just outside Copenhagen, Denmark. Regular international travel is required.
