Group Technical Manager

Job title:
Group Technical Manager

Ref.: SV-089016

Reporting to the Svitzer Chief Technical Officer (CTO), this position offers the opportunity to combine maritime expertise with business acumen in a dynamic and international environment

We Offer

You will be joining an industry leader generating USD 900M in revenue and contributing to our ambition of transforming and maintaining a leading position within the towage industry. The position offers the right candidate an opportunity to join a dynamic, international and growth-focused company.

The role is based at our Head Office in Copenhagen, where a lean and flat structure and a mind-set of autonomy creates a performance driven culture with significant independence to impact your role and, ultimately, the performance of our company.

As Technical Manager you will be reporting directly to the Chief Technical Officer (CTO).

Key Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility is being the Group’s technical strategy owner and expert – applying solid knowledge and experiences within technical operational areas in the maritime industry and translating business strategies into technical measures and initiatives.

This involves providing support, technical input, due diligence and liaison with our regional technical departments, affiliated companies and other departments in Svitzer Head Office and the Maersk Group.

Further responsibilities involve:

• issuing technical instructions

• participation in risk avoidance management meetings to ensure solid incidents investigations and technical “lessons learned” are shared within the Group

• co-ordination and follow-up on technical/quality inspections across the Group

• contributing to tenders

• conducting site visits

• preparing presentations for potential clients

• represent Svitzer in technical forums to keep us at the forefront of marine technology

• establishing relationships with external parties

• preparing position papers for technical solutions

• supplier evaluation

More specifically, you will be expected to deliver on the following:

• taking ownership and managing technical performance and internal projects across the Group

• continuously seeking to improve technical performance, TCO and cost effectiveness

• proactively staying updated on technical developments within the maritime industry

• keeping management advised of any important developments within areas of responsibility

• taking ownership of technical OPEX and CAPEX spend and preparing capital expenditure proposals

• demonstrating how technical performance impacts safety, developing and leading safe cost efficient technical operations

Who we are looking for

You have a long (10+ years) and recognized maritime career, preferably within the towage industry.

Your educational background is in engineering (Marine, Mechanical or Electrical) or as a naval architect. Your technical vessel operation knowledge and experiences are well documented and you have a thorough understanding of maritime rules and regulations.

You are driven by results and possess sound leadership skills; you may even have some years of management experience. You know how to manage a diverse group of stakeholders, are capable of prioritizing and committed to timely delivery on your objectives and targets.

You are a team player and a networker who knows how to leverage different sources for business purposes. You are persistent by nature and have a thorough approach to problem solving.

To be successful in the position you also need to have:

• a safety culture mindset and audit/incident investigation experiences

• strong project management and resources planning skills

• sound understanding of financial measures and practices

• IT administrative and analytic proficiency

• excellent communication skills. Our working language is English and you must be fluent in writing as well as verbally.

Last application date: 15 November 2015.
