Overview / Responsibilities Wood KSS is looking for an expression of interest from Lead Piping Designer (Expatriate) with proven experience in the oil and gas petrochemical industry to join our Operations business on a 6 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation, based in Atyrau, Kazakhstan. This role will be an initial 12 month contract commencing August/September 2023. Wood "Operations" delivers brownfields engineering, procurement, construction, optimisation and technical services to the Oil & Gas industry and enjoys long-term partnerships with some of the region's most prominent producers. Reporting to the Discipline Lead Engineer and working across FEED / Execution, you will contribute to engineering excellence by providing the link between engineering design theory and practical application, translating critical design concepts into workable plans for tangible end-products. You will provide day to day leadership of the Piping Design team and take responsibility the provision of design deliverables to schedule and budget. Responsibilities : Role modelling Wood's vision, values, and behaviours including promoting safe working practices at all times Providing safety leadership within the design team in the office, on site and in the design Planning and coordinating the work assigned to the Piping design team comprising Piping designers proficient in the use of 3D modelling, AutoCAD and SPI Providing technical guidance, training, coaching and mentoring to less experienced piping designers, AutoCAD and SPI operators. Interpreting, organising, executing and co-ordinating activities within agreed budget and schedule Controlling and reporting of cost and progress measurement within the piping design team Developing and managing schedule together with the Wood Project Controller Developing estimates for the piping design team and the coordination of estimates with other Wood offices Ensuring compliance with all relevant industry and authority codes and standards and Wood procedures and systems Identifying the primary task in each team situation and maintains clear focus to achieve results Supporting compliance of all activities to Company HSE and Occupational Health and Safety requirements Participating in, and promoting compliance of Company HSE and Occupational Health and Safety requirements as part of the risk management process Participating in any Company HSE initiatives and programmes Ensuring safe project execution through compliance with Wood management procedures Actively promoting excellence in HSE by setting clear HSE expectations Setting clear expectations for individuals and the team; provide ongoing coaching and support for personnel Providing consistent, visible leadership to ensure strong individual and team motivation and productivity Actively seek and promote a team culture of learning and gaining increased competence for relevant areas within the discipline Providing regular feedback to the team and take responsibility for any performance management issues within the team Understanding the localisation drivers for the project and ensuring active support for this area Contributing to innovative solutions to meet the project objectives and improvement of relevant work methods procedures and tools Actively supporting the assignment contracts in delivering piping design work and project deliverables within the project closeout phase in line with their commitments Active use of the Wood network to keep abreast of company developments, resources and opportunities Engaging with the other disciplines to identify improvements to communication and delivery. Promoting a culture of open communication within and between disciplines and project management Contributing to effective screening of client requirements and proposed solutions Understanding and following the relevant Wood engineering and design processes Encouraging, promoting and implementing integrity in design to other members of the piping design team Timely and accurate reporting of cost, time and progress Understanding and applying the relevant NORMS to project estimates Understanding of relevant discipline KPIs and contribute to team performance in improving the productivity and performance of the piping design team Leading by example with time writing timeliness and accuracy Pro-actively managing project scope variations Ensuring that work does not commence without an approved budget or variation At Wood you will join an inclusive and diverse global community of inquisitive minds and recognised industry innovators, partnering to create new possibilities. Skills / Qualifications As part of the regional requirements for obtaining work permits, you must hold a relevant Diploma or Degree qualification in Engineering from a recognised institution. Suitably qualified, ideally you will have proven experience with 15+ years' experience in Piping design within the Oil & Gas industry. In addition, you will have: Relevant experience in design, construction/commissioning and general knowledge of oil and gas, refining or chemical facilities Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal) with proven experience interfacing effectively with other disciplines, project managers, and multiple client stakeholders Experience in effective delegation and team development while delivering to internal and external customers Ability to accurately interpret client requirements and scope project work Experience providing input into project schedules, estimates, work scopes and basis of design Ability to provide robust challenge of client standards as a part of normal work practice Proficiency with 3D modelling / PDMS, AutoCAD and SPI Prior experience working with high value engineering centers highly regarded What will set you apart will be proven FEED experience working in a similar role.
