Mechanical Engineer Location: Houston, TX Start Date: February 2023 NES Fircroft is looking for a Mechanical Engineer to work with a company that is developing a novel photocatalytic platform that has the potential for dramatically more efficient and sustainable manufacturing of chemicals, fuels, and fertilizers. The technology, which is based on ground-breaking photocatalyst research, has the potential to revolutionize the energy and chemical industries by reducing energy usage, cost, and carbon emission compared to traditional fossil fuel-based heat-powered chemical manufacturing processes. The company is supported by top venture capital investors, strategic corporate investors, and federal funding. Job ResponsibilitiesReviews and approves key engineering drawings and calculations and bid summaries on small/medium size projects.Provide oversight to Engineering, Procurement, & Construction companies performing work on behalf of the client.Develop an understanding of the reactor system and the ability to assist EPC or Customers with the integration of the Reactor System into a Balance of Plant.Performs work that involves conventional engineering practice but may include complex features such as resolving conflicting design requirements, unsuitability of conventional materials, and/or difficult coordination requirements.Engineering planning - interprets a supplied project scope and applies applicable industry regulations and codes, standard engineering procedures, and good engineering practices.Prepares or assists in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports, or proposals.Provides technical oversight in leading the development of the following deliverables, design reviews and tasks: Mechanical Equipment Specifications, Mechanical Equipment Datasheets, Material Requisitions for Quote and Purchase, Technical Bid Evaluations, Inspection and Test Plans, Vendor document review, Inspection reports, etc.Provide input to scoping documents such as equipment list as well as necessary support to P&ID, HAZOP and Model reviewsAssist with material selection for equipment.Provide technical support to resolve construction and startup questions and issues.When necessary, has the technical competence to independently develop deliverables and conduct design reviews.Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to management.Supports the creation of a work environment that fosters openness, trust, communication, teamwork, empowerment, innovation, and satisfaction. Qualifications  Applicant must have BS in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent degree.5-10 years of experienceAnsys experience is preferredSolidworks experience is preferred   Understanding of the roles played by other engineering disciplines and departments on projects, and their interfaces with the mechanical team, including construction practices.Knowledge of the application of Engineering to plant constructability as applied to construction methods and materials.Broad knowledge of industry or regulatory codes and standards such as API, ASME, etc.Skilled in oral and written communication. Can effectively communicate and collaborate with other engineering disciplines, project management, EPCs and customers.Able to troubleshoot issues in a field or job site setting confidently, and to provide instruction on how to resolve issues identified.
