Position Summary The successful candidate under general supervision and working with the cognizant engineering staff is responsible for the mechanical and sheet metal design of parts and assemblies used in underwater vehicles. Design work encompasses a broad array of work including hydraulics, pressure vessels, welded structures, bolted assemblies, sheet metal parts, composite material enclosures, electrical, and electronic equipment of simple to moderate complexity and more. A Staff Designer is required to creatively apply knowledge from a broad spectrum of experience and knowledge to accomplish these tasks. The Staff Designer is also responsible for preparing layout piece-part and assembly level drawings of designs for complex components, parts, assemblies, and sub-assemblies. We are looking for a long-term addition to our team. Duties & Responsibilities Abides by the procedures and guidelines established in accordance with Oceaneering OTECH drafting standards, ASME Y14.5M, and related contractual requirements. Independently completes assignments that may be complex in nature and takes appropriate action and exercises a high degree of initiative in resolving problems and developing recommendations. Responsibility will be to c reate engineering design layouts and assemblies using SolidWorks and other computer-aided design (CAD) programs. Generate corresponding part, assembly and interface control drawings. Use geometric dimensioning and tolerancing as required. Ability to Check completed drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning. Experience working on equipment used underwater including component selection and design, assembly, integration and related work is preferred. Must be able to work in an integrated product team (IPT) environment. Suggests hardware, materials, and components with engineering assistance. Interfaces with machine shop, manufacturing and design engineering personnel on clearances, tolerances, and manufacturing/machine options and inspection techniques. Performs other special duties when required by the Design Manager, Lead Mechanical project Engineer, and more Senior Design Staff. Provides Mentoring to designers and drafters to ensure consistency in design and drawings. Regularly, coordinates work of one or more designers and drafters on a project. Qualifications REQUIRED: Associate Degree in CAD Design or equivalent level of experience, 7-10 years in SolidWorks. Proficient in SolidWorks Routing Program, Sheet Metal Program, Weldment Program, and product data management. Experience with phases of production, machining, and manufacturing. Advanced working knowledge of manufacturing and fabrication, such as machining centers (CNC), sheet metal, and welding fabrication. Experience in structural design. Ability to create schedules for design deliverables and to support design reviews. Ability to work independently and to supervise other designers and drafters in development of original designs, modifications to existing designs, and technical drawings of parts and assemblies. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word®, Excel, and PowerPoint. US citizen Must be able to obtain security clearance Additional duties as assigned. DESIRED: Working knowledge and experience with AutoCAD SolidWorks Model Based Dimensioning experience Active security clearance preferred Additional Information This position is Hybrid - Remote and will require commuting to a designated office.
