The Control and Automation Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, documenting, testing and commissioning industrial automation and control systems within constraints such as development cost, product quality, product safety and time. Roles and Responsibilities: Work with cross functional engineering domains, such as mechanical, electrical and industrial with a common goal of delivering quality projects/products on time and under budget. Analyze domain problems and identify, adapt and develop technologies from the fields of autonomous systems and industrial automation to Document and validate automated processes with domain experts, not limited to Functional Description, User guides, Integration guides, I&C guides, Testing Guides, Reports, etc. Work with R&D and Product development teams to convert the control system concepts into prototypes and interface with manufacturing, supply chain, TLM and other segments to build the prototypes to the specifications provided Develop IO maps, System Architecture, control algorithms, block diagrams, state machines, PLC and HMI applications, etc. necessary for the design and engineering of projects and product development. Primarily work on New product development, integration into the Rig Control system and also Project delivery and Sustaining. Knowledgeable in the control system theory and its application into the Drilling systems Prior experience working with internal and external stake holders and gathering functional/product requirement specs and converting them into software specs and hardware requirements Identify scope creep, Estimate scope of work, prepare bill of materials, project resource and delivery estimates when quoting new/existing projects/upgrades Work On call in the nights in a rotation system along with other team members supporting any issues from the field. Travel to rig sites as needed and work with I&C team onsite/remotely for an efficient and successful installation and commissioning of the project/product. Provide technical support to field personnel as required to assist with troubleshooting control system issues from the field Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline or related field preferably Electrical/Control Systems/Mechanical Engineering. Willing to travel and work at client sites up to 25% 7+ years of proven experience with PLC programming and HMI development Experience in PLC development using Omron and/or Beckhoff Experience in HMI development using Wonderware Experience working with VFD drives, preferably Yaskawa, GE and/or ABB drives. Experience working in the drilling industry Experience working with Industrial communication protocols (Profibus, Profinet, OPC-UA, Ethernet I/P, CANbus, etc.) Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship SLB is an equal employment opportunity employer.
