Roles and Responsibilities: Design and integration of AC/DC Variable Speed Drive systems to be used in the Oil and Gas Drilling Industry for in house projects. Responsibilities include the creation of Bills of Materials, electrical drawings, progress reports, and functional test specifications. Works closely with the mechanical engineering group, the project management team, the control systems group, production control, QC and field service to establish scope of work requirements and ensure on-time deliveries. Work with customers, sales and project management to accurately define system design parameters to best suit the customer's needs Create accurate, detailed AutoCAD electrical drawings showing power distribution, control circuits, communications, interconnect and wiring diagrams Perform load flow studies, short circuit analysis, circuit breaker coordination and harmonics mitigation of power distribution systems in SKM Size and specify power distribution and protective circuit devices including transformers, filtering reactors, motor starters, relays, motor control centers, cables, circuit breakers, fuses, etc. Design control circuits, relay logic, and specify control hardware including the selection of power supplies, operators, relays, metering, etc. Create and maintain the project Bill of Material in the company's MRP systems Supply regular project status updates and reports to Engineering and Project management Create Functional Test Documents to be used by the QC and Test department Assist in final QC and Test as necessary Assist Field Service personnel with the commissioning of Engineered Products Qualifications and Experience: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Technology 3-5 years electrical engineering experience in controls and power system design is preferred. Technical Abilities: Proficiency in AutoCad, Excel, Word, Outlook. Knowledge of control panel layout and shortest path wiring principles Knowledge of NEC, ABS, DNV, IEC and IEEE-45 recommended practices for shipboard installation is desired Ability to perform short circuit analysis, breaker coordination, load flow studies and calculate grounding requirements in accordance with IEEE Red, Buff and Brown books desired, as well as knowledge of power system analysis software such as SKM or ETAP. Ability to handle multiple project activities simultaneously, coordinate and interact with multiple departments and outside companies. Strong interpersonal, decision making and negotiation skills are required. Proven track record of analyzing problems to determine the root cause of power and control system failures. Excellent electrical troubleshooting skills are a must. High level of PC experience. Understanding of serial communications when applied in noisy industrial environments. Experience with control system architecture including Profibus, Canbus and Ethernet in both copper and fiber optic networks. Requires good verbal and written communication skills Ability to work independently and within a team environment Ability to write concise functional testing procedures, commissioning procedures, and field installation and modification instructions. Physical Requirements: Lifting, climbing, sitting, standing and/or motor vehicle use . Environmental Factors: Both office and remote work in the field may be required. Field assignments can be in remote, harsh environments. Some assignments will involve overseas travel; therefore a current passport is required for this position. Part of the time may be spent on a shop floor that is not air-conditioned. Candidates must be able to legally work and reside in the US, without sponsorship.
