Position Summary The Offshore Communication technician is a dynamic position responsible for installing and testing VSAT systems offshore, providing onsite technical support for the purpose of repair and maintenance of VSAT terminals at customer locations located anywhere in the world. Additionally, they maintain an onboard Windows domain, 3 independent vessel networks, and assist onboard customers with all IT needs. Provide customer support to a proprietary secure communication system. LOCATION AND TRAVEL • This position is for remote Offshore work exclusively 6-7 months per year with domestic and international travel up to 100%. Duties & Responsibilities • Installation, configuration, testing and troubleshooting communication equipment including satellite VSAT systems above and below deck components. • Lead build and test activities prior to mobilization. • Work with Project Managers and Engineering Team to vet project requirements and feasibility. • Troubleshoot RF and IP components of maritime VSAT systems using specialized software and test equipment. Interpret troubleshooting results and determine best course of action to restore operability in least time possible and most cost-effective manner. • Support all onboard computer networks and users for day-to-day operations, as well as response to system outages. • Provides technical training and assistance to junior level personnel. • Other assigned work as and when required to support operations and projects. • Travel domestic and international up to 100%. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES • This position has no supervisory responsibilities. Qualifications REQUIRED • Minimum (3) years working on VSAT technologies. • Minimum (3) years experience using various RF test equipment. • Minimum (1) year experience with cisco network equipment. • Minimum (1) year working in offshore environments. • Candidate must be US citizen, eligible for a security clearance. DESIRED • MCSE server certification. • Security + certification. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS • Must be customer oriented. • Excellent troubleshooting skills. • Excellent decision-making skills even in high stress situations. • Ability to adapt to scope change and clearly assess impacts to schedule. • Excellent oral and written communication skills. • Desire for growing technical knowledge. • Ability to work as a team member, team lead and/or independently. • Manages daily activities and sets performance goals accordingly. • Available after hours and weekends as needed and willing to work on-call rotation. • Ability to travel at last minute notice. Additional Information WORKING CONDITIONS This position will require Offshore work, in harsh environments. Domestic and international travel up to 100 %.
