In this role, you will be responsible for the conceptualization and development of new technologies that will be foundational in shaping the global energy transition efforts in Geothermal, Oil & Gas, and Carbon Capture. The Lead Electrical Engineer will interact with customers, universities, and a broad range of internal stakeholders from the manufacturing floor to senior and executive leadership. The scope of work for the candidate will span a wide array of technologies including sensors, electric motors, pumps, seals, variable speed drives, IIOT devices, electrical cables, and other technologies.As a Lead Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for:Scoping and leading all aspects of complex research and technology development projectsElectrical system design from the conceptual design phase progressing through the preliminary and detailed design phases to culminate in equipment qualification and test.Development and documentation of the system, subsystem, and component specifications and requirementsDesign and or selection of electrical elements or subsystems including but not limited to power distribution & conversion, automation & control, component & system I/O, drives & servos, sensors, processors, circuit cards, cabling, connectors, and other electronic componentsGenerate electrical design artifacts including schematics/diagrams (wiring, cable, I/O & interconnection), circuit analysis, control system designs, grounding schemes, electromagnetic interference mitigation schemes, control panel layouts, and I/O schemes that meet product design requirementsSelection of engineering techniques to solve problems and makes sound design recommendationsDevelopment, verification, and application of simulation models for digital and electrical systems using modern simulation tools such as ANSYS TwinBuilder, MotorCAD, OptiSlang, Maxwell, MATLAB, and or common programming languagesCommunicating project results to customers, senior/executive leadership, and industry forumsInteracting with universities to develop research partnerships and guide work conducted within research consortiaPerforming hands-on work in our state-of-the-art research and product test facilitiesAssessing results for applicability, validity, and conformance to specificationsSupporting the development of the research and product development strategy for electrical and digital systemsMaintaining awareness of the state of the art in the following areas: electrical motor design & control, IIoT Devices, electronics & digital systemsWorking independently and in a cross-functional teamLeading and mentoring fellow employeesFuel your passionTo be successful in this role the candidate will have:Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering with 4-8+ years of experience, Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with 2-6+ years of experience,Strong communication and project management skillsMust be action-oriented, ethical in value, and have a strong customer focusA practical and theoretical background in electrical system and component design (conceptual, preliminary, detailed design), manufacturing, prototype development and engineering testCapable of "hands-on" work in lab, test facility, or engineering prototype shopProficiency in:Problem-solving skills with a drive for results and the ability to handle multiple tasksConceptual design and ideationSchematic developmentElectrical component and system design, analysis/simulation, and documentationAdvanced use of simulation tools including MATLAB and other electrical CAE toolsProgramming in: C, C++, C#, or PythonMS Office applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and VisioDemonstrated expertise in written communication and technical writingAbility to build peer relationships as well as work independentlyFluent in EnglishDesired Characteristics:Demonstrated expertise in:Design of electrical motorsDevelopment of component, subsystem, and system level models for complex electrical systemsPartial discharge testingDemonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skillset executed against multidimensional challenges Working with us Our people are at the heart of what we do at Baker Hughes.
