Position Summary Space suit audio communications equipment design, analysis, production, testing, certification, and delivery. Duties & Responsibilities Primary duties are centered upon architecting and implementing audio equipment for Lunar/Mars Exploration Space Suits This includes requirements analysis, equipment design and analysis, component selection, programming of audio processing software, production/assembly, equipment testing, product delivery, and space suit integration testing. This effort will involve acoustic performance testing including the set-up and operation of acoustic instrumentation and acoustic data acquisition systems, and the quantification of speech quality measurements in the presence of space suit background noise and acoustic effects and for differing space suit atmospheric pressures. Analysis reports and design products are to be produced to support each program milestone. Job functions includes audio/acoustic laboratory equipment outfitting, operations, and maintenance with the aid of space suit technicians. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibilities Qualifications CAPABILITIES: The candidate shall possess a professional knowledge of acoustics including basic theory, wave propagation, decibels, levels, reflection, and absorption; noise control techniques; experience and competence with acoustic measurement equipment including a variety of microphones, acoustics calibrators, and data acquisition systems; experience with sound intensity and sound power measurements; knowledge of frequency domain processing including FFT theory and techniques, filtering techniques, and cross spectral techniques, software programming proficiencies. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelor of Science degree with a master's degree in an acoustics/audio-related field of study 10+ years of experience within acoustics and audio-related fields of work; inclusive of academic/commercial research positions US citizen or Permanent Resident. PREFERENCES: Direct experience with Aerospace/NASA Hardware and software standards.
