Overview / Responsibilities Wood are currrently recruiting for a Senior Structural Designer with extensive Oil & Gas experience to join our Team in Aberdeen. The Senior Structural Designer will: Contribute to engineering excellence by providing the link between engineering design theory and practical application, translating critical design concepts into workable plans for tangible end-products Prepare engineering drawings in their discipline area from rough sketches or from general engineering and design information according to established standards and procedures Create designs and sketch out detailed plans for projects such as commercial, industrial, and civil sector structures and plant and/or manufactured products and systems Plan and carry out technical assignments of substantial variety and complexity. Capable of handling assignments which involve a variety of procedures and techniques Undertake technical assignments that are a significant part of an ongoing engineering program Prepare mechanical or digital drawings, diagrams or blueprints and/or models of various products or structures, using computer-aided drafting (CAD) and/or computer-aided drafting and design (CADD) software Develop working drawings, within company and industry standards and codes, from equipment specifications and detailed drawings to support completion of engineering deliverables Create drawings involving plans, layouts, calculations and bills of material Work on assignments involving a variety of design procedures and techniques Record observations, performs calculations and prepares reports on assignments Perform layouts, design and checking work from the basic data supplied Design and makes detail drawings from rough sketches involving intricate calculations and the application of fundamental engineering principles Establish project drafting standards and monitors their conformance Identifies cost effective solutions to design problems Assists in the preparation of bid evaluations Designs and constructs models, prototypes, processes or equipment; compiles and evaluates data, makes recommendations, prepares reports Prepares estimates of time, quantities, materials and labour required for activities related to testing, installation, manufacture, design or construction Generates bill of materials from finished designs Ensure quality in design, technical accuracy in the preparation of drawings, material quantities, etc including reviewing others work at more senior levels Plan assigned work effectively and obtains/provides information liaising with the project team and line manager, in time to control man-hours and achieve targets Carry out site visits / surveys and provides inputs to site visit reports Skills / Qualifications Qualifications: Minimum ISCED level 5 short-cycle tertiary education in engineering discipline Knowledge, skills and experience: A full understanding of the materials and methods normally used in their discipline An understanding of related engineering principles and practices, plus training and diversified experience in the field of activity is required. Capable of interpreting key documents including; engineering standards, piping materialspecifications, P&IDs and Line Lists Technically oriented, mechanically inclined, good at mathematics and talented at translating intangible concepts into hands-on project plans Competent user of CAD/D software Personal attributes: Enjoys being involved in the practical application of complex theoretical principles Self-motivated and completes given tasks to enhance the overall team performance Prepared to take on new tasks and learn new technical subjects / skills Continuously develops own knowledge and abilities Good at problem-solving, logical and methodical Strong attention to detail Good communicator Company Overview Wood is a global leader in engineering and consultancy across energy and the built environment, helping to unlock solutions to some of the world's most critical challenges.
