Overview / Responsibilities Wood are currrently recruiting for a Senior Structural Engineer with extensive Oil & Gas experience to join our Team in Aberdeen. The Senior Structural Engineer will contribute to the delivery of engineering excellence through: Executing assigned scopes of work Providing discipline expertise to the business Supporting and supervising task delegation to team Executing Assigned Scopes of Work: Participates as a team member in a specific phase of a broad engineering assignment Directs preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects Ensures successful completion of the assigned project/phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints Participates in defining engineering approaches, and in planning and scheduling work Evaluates problems, organizes investigations and establishes general performance specifications for components, equipment, systems, processes, etc Check Engineering calculations as well as check all drawings in accordance with industry codes and standards; Assist with the development of less senior Technical Professionals Adhere to and comply with relevant discipline specific procedures and provide feedback for continuous improvement Participate in audits and incident investigations as required Performs complex engineering tasks related to specific units of major projects Participate in site visits, project review meetings, design reviews and other workshops as required Organising and active participation in design reviews Providing discipline expertise: Solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches; exercises mature professional judgment in evaluating and selecting technical strategic options As necessary, modifies established guidelines, devises new approaches, applies existing criteria in new ways and draws conclusions from comparative situations Regularly functions as a technical leader or significant contributor to a major complex problem or project Produces innovative ideas and solves problems requiring development of new approaches or new uses for existing approaches Consistently called on to use creativity and professional judgement to formulate results based on engineering standards, experience and constructive thinking Develops unique solutions for complex technical problems Anticipates potential problems and takes the initiative to solve complex problems through creative thinking and creative use of internal and external resources both inside and outside of discipline expertise Exercises mature professional judgement in identifying the implications of experimental results Understands customer needs and applies technical solutions to meet goals Provide technical input and support to proposals as required Skills / Qualifications Qualifications: ISCED Level 6 Bachelors (minimum) or Level 7 Masters (preferred) Degree in engineering discipline, alternatively, tertiary level education combined with suitable industry experience can be used to demonstrate equivalence Chartership, PE Status or relevant professional license/registration accredited by a recognised body preferred Knowledge, skills and experience: Requires mature professional knowledge and extensive progressive experience in general engineering Professional level of knowledge of relevant regulatory framework and legislation Ability to provide guidance and direction to project team, managing, motivating and mentoring professional engineering specialists. Ability to discover issues and recommend solutions to technical and commercial issues uncovered during course of performing assignments Proficient user of relevant software and calculation templates Professional level of ability in the application of standards, processes and procedures and how they are used in work execution Professional level of knowledge of applicable codes and standards Technically competent in own discipline, pursues continuous professional development of skills and knowledge according to standards • Maintains own knowledge of relevant regulatory framework, legislation changes, initiatives and industry technology developments and promotes to direct reports Applies mature professional knowledge and experience to assignments where issues and factors to be considered may be characterised by unsual demands and require additional evaluation to establish the nature and scope of the problem Demonstrated ability to apply advanced laws, principles, mathematics or industry knowledge in the improvement and development of designs Demonstrated skills in persuasion, negotiation, motivation and communication Demonstrated proficiency in project planning Possess a working knowledge of the various Business Units, Functions, Sectors and services offered within business area, and general understanding of other Wood business offerings Personal attributes: Solutions-oriented and creative, able to apply process and rigour to deliver quality solutions Compelling communicator both verbally and in written form Good interpersonal and team working skills, builds positive relationships with supervisors, subordinates, peers and clients Enthusiastic, conscientious and committed to continuous professional development of self and others High level of awareness and commitment to safety in all aspects of daily work Strong organisational skills and attention to detail Highly motivated and demonstrates personal initiative Possesses integrity, strong work ethic, positive attitude, and is dependable Adaptable and flexible to the changing needs of projects Company Overview Wood is a global leader in engineering and consultancy across energy and the built environment, helping to unlock solutions to some of the world's most critical challenges.
