Wood has a fantastic opportunity for a Marine Consultant to join our existing Aquatic Ecology team. This is a post of strategic significance to our team as we expand our project portfolio and our ambitious growth objectives. The role represents an exciting opportunity to manage and deliver aquatic inputs into our expansive range of freshwater, coastal and marine projects and to be part of the successful growth agenda, by working as a team to secure new interesting and challenging projects. We are seeking a candidate who can provide clear and innovative aquatic ecology advice and who is capable of supporting the freshwater / marine elements of major development projects, during both project delivery and business development phases. Key Responsibilities of the Role: Providing technical support across the marine biodiversity team to deliver inputs across all project lifecycles from supporting bids/feasibility/optioneering studies, field survey, detailed design and assessment Assisting/supporting in the production of ecological assessments from project inception through to project completion, including, from a coastal / marine perspective, authoring/technically reviewing: scoping reports; aquatic ecology chapters of Environmental Impact Assessment Reports / Environmental Statements; Habitats Regulations Appraisals / Assessments; Water Framework Directive assessments; Marine Strategy Framework Directive assessments; and Marine Conservation Zone / Marine Protected Area assessments, and assisting with the associated quality, schedule and budget management responsibilities From a freshwater perspective, supporting in the completion of fish, macroinvertebrate and river habitat assessments, in support of onshore renewable energy and water resources projects Working with and supporting other staff. We are passionate about continual professional development and look to our senior staff to provide on the job support to ensure our team members grow and develop to achieve their aspirations and meet our client needs Networking across the Aquatics team and wider UK consultancy business, developing relationships with other technical disciplines in the pursuit of enhancing our offer to the market and in striving to continually innovate approaches, techniques, and solutions for our clients Skills / Qualifications The role requires excellent reporting and communications skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team, seeking technical input from other disciplines to deliver carefully considered solutions to produce high quality work. The required skills and qualifications include: 2-3 years of consultancy experience Relevant degree (BSc or MSc) in a marine discipline, e.g. marine ecology/biology, oceanography, underwater acoustics, marine modelling etc. Understanding of the EcIA and EIA process. Working knowledge of UK and European legislation in relation to protected marine habitats and species, including knowledge of the HRA process. Working knowledge of one, or more, of the following would be advantageous: Freshwater ecology Benthic ecology Fisheries Invasive and non-native species Offshore / coastal ornithology Marine mammals Marine water and sediment quality Underwater noise and resultant impacts to fish and marine mammals Physical and coastal processes Marine modelling Marine planning Membership of CIEEM or equivalent body (or eligibility if not currently held).
