Brush Power Generation is searching for an experienced Technical Support Engineer to work alongside our Engineering and Service staff to oversee the inspection, testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of BRUSH Voltage Regulation Systems (AVRs) in power generation, industrial, or marine applications.Partner with the bestThe Technical Support Engineer will be responsible for all aspects of contract set up, maintenance & troubleshooting, system calibration, technical support & documentation including warranty investigations. There will also be a need to support the commercial division to support detailed technical AVR fit and solution discussions when required.As a Technical Support Engineer, you will be responsible for:Performing contract-specific AVR software configuration, commissioning, testing, and validation activities prior to system deploymentSupporting field engineering activities, including installation, startup, commissioning, and customer acceptance testingConducting routine and outage-related maintenance activities to ensure reliable system operationDiagnosing and resolving complex electrical and control system issues using advanced diagnostic tools and methodologiesPerforming inspections to identify wear, corrosion, loose connections, damaged wiring, and component degradationImplementing preventive maintenance programs to improve reliability and reduce equipment downtimeCalibrating AVR systems to ensure proper voltage regulation and optimal equipment performanceProviding technical support to customers and internal teams, including fault analysis, troubleshooting guidance, and technical recommendationsPreparing technical reports covering testing, maintenance activities, system performance, and warranty investigationsEnsuring compliance with safety standards and procedures when working with high-voltage equipment and industrial environmentsManaging projects from concept through commissioning, including planning, scheduling, supplier coordination, and technical oversightActing as a technical liaison with suppliers, customers, and warranty teams to support issue resolution and continuous improvementSupporting commercial teams with technical evaluations, AVR fit assessments, and solution development discussionsFuel your passionTo be successful in this role you will:Have a degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent industry experienceDemonstrate proven experience in a customer-facing or supplier-facing technical roleHave hands-on experience working with generator excitation systems, AVR systems, or power generation equipmentPossess strong knowledge of generator controls, excitation systems, and AVR maintenance practicesBe familiar with generator OEM technologies such as BRUSH, GE, Basler, DEIF, Woodward, or equivalent systemsDemonstrate strong time management and multitasking capabilities within a project-driven environmentBe capable of lifting equipment and performing field-based technical activities when requiredPossess strong communication skills and the ability to work independently or within small teamsBe willing to travel to customer sites as business needs requireDemonstrate strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and decision-making abilitiesTechnical ExpertiseStrong understanding of three-phase electrical systems, power electronics, SCRs, and control loop principlesKnowledge of Self-Excited (Shunt), Auxiliary Winding, and Permanent Magnet Generator (PMG) excitation systemsProficiency with both Analog AVR and Digital AVR technologiesAbility to configure and support protection functions including under-frequency, over-voltage, and under-voltage protectionUnderstanding of generator build-up characteristics and field flashing requirementsFamiliarity with key electrical and electronic components including:Thyristors (SCRs)DiodesPotential Transformers (PTs)PotentiometersCapacitorsVoltage sensing and control circuitsExperience using diagnostic and testing equipment including:OscilloscopesMultimetersInsulation testersWaveform analyzersOEM configuration and diagnostic softwareWork in a way that works for youWe recognize that everyone is different and that the way in which people want to work and deliver at their best is different for everyone too.
